Ferry-Morse Asparagus Bean Seed, Yard Long (Dow Gauk) Ferry-Morse Asparagus Bean Seed, Yard Long (Dow Gauk) Packet Back

Asparagus Bean Seeds
Yard Long (Dow Gauk)
6.00G

Produces long, slender, green pods which are sweet, tender and perfect for snap bean use. Great in stir-fry dishes. Best when pods are about 12 inches long, but remain stringless at greater lengths. This packet will plant approximately a 12 foot row.

15 - 21 days for germination, 67 days to harvest from germination. Along a trellis, sow a seed every 3 inches when soil is warm. Soaking seeds overnight in water just before planting will speed germination. Thin to one plant every 6 inches when plants display 3-4 leaves. Frequent picking of young pods increase production.

Avoid working around beans when wet since this may spread disease. When weeding, hoe gently because beans are shallow-rooted. Do not mulch plants until they have been thinned.

Garden Bean Seeds
Frijol, Pinto
28G

The pinto bean is an oval, medium size bean used often in Mexican cuisine. They are easy to grow and provide excellent nutritional value. They grow best in full sun, well-drained fertile soil. Incorporate organic matter into the soil at planting and fertilize again as flowering and bud set begins. Provide adequate amounts of water. Dry beans do require a longer growing season as you harvest them at full maturity. They can be used either fresh or dried.

Soak the seeds 24 hours before sowing. Sow seeds as soon as ground can be worked Plant 2 seeds every 4 inches. When plants are well established, thin. Thin to 1 plant every 4 inches when plants have 4 leaves. Avoid heavy applications of nitrogen fertilizers as this will cause lush foliar growth and few pods.

Germination in 7 - 10 days, 102 days to harvest from germination. Harvest when pods are completely dry and beans can hardly be dented when bitten. Do not plant beans or any other legumes in the same place more than once every 3 years. This is an indeterminate large bush type pinto bean.
