Catnip 500MG
Perennial herb. Nepeta cataria. This plant, which is one of the mint family, takes its name because of its particular attraction for cats. Young leaves and shoots also impart lemony-mintness to everyday cooking and to catnip tea. Can also be grown for bee forage. Catnip's intoxicating fragrance is famous for making cats kittenish. Don't be surprised to find a feline with a blissful grin lolling in the center of your patch. Catnip's vitamin-rich leaves also make a relaxing tea for stressed out humans.

Plant seeds in spring or early fall in well-drained soil. Add lime to neutralize acid soil. Sow seeds sparingly, firm soil gently over the row and keep moist. Keep well watered while growing. Pinch off the first flower buds to encourage branching. Cut back tall plants for a neater appearance. Snip off leaves as needed. For drying, harvest when plants are in full flower.

Chamomile
German 45MG
Annual herb. Aromatic, feathery leaves are complimented with summer blooming, white daisy-like flowers with yellow button centers. Chamomile tea is prepared from the flowers and has a soothing, mild flavor. Flowers are used fresh or dried. After danger of frost, sow seeds in open ground well exposed. Barely cover seeds with soil; needs light to germinate.

When plants are 2 inches tall, thin or transplant. Harvest flowers while in full bloom, and keep flowers cut back to encourage new growth. Store flowers in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.

Chives 615MG
Perennial herb. The hollow, thin leaves have a delicate flavor much like very mild onions. Delicious in salads and for flavoring soups and omelets. Because of the plants attractive cloverlike blossoms, they are often used for edging flowerbeds. Start seed indoors in a sunny location 6 weeks before planting outdoors. Or, sow seed in the garden in sunny location in rich, well-drained soil. Performs best in rows 12 inches apart.

Thin plants to 6 inches apart when they are 2 inches tall. Leaves can be harvested 4 months after sowing; then cut often. For fresh supply in winter, bring clumps indoors in containers. Usually used fresh but can be preserved by drying or freezing. Excellent for indoor windowsill gardens.

Chives
Garlic 400MG
Perennial herb. Distinguished by white ball-shaped flowers which grow in clusters above the tips on the spear-like flat leaves. Clip leaves for use as seasoning in salads, cheese and egg dishes, gravies and soups for a delicate onion or garlic flavor. Start seed indoors in a sunny location 6 weeks before planting outdoors. Or, sow seed in the garden in sunny location in rich, well-drained soil. Performs best in rows 12 inches apart.

Cilantro / Coriander 1.20G
Annual herb. The plant is Cilantro while the seeds are Coriander. The leaves have a distinctive flavor and are used as a garnish in salads and soups. The seed is used in meat and seafood dishes, as well as a condiment for flavoring bread, cookies and cakes. Sow directly in full sun after all danger of frost is past. For best results, plant in rows 12 inches apart.

Thin plants to 6 inches apart when 2 inches tall. Harvest seeds in late summer by cutting seed heads

when ripe. Spread seed heads on trays to dry in sun. Thresh by hand and store in jars. The seeds' odor dissipates in storage.

Dill
Bouquet 600MG
Annual herb. An easy-to-grow herb. Green or dried seed clusters are used primarily in making dill pickles. Fresh young leaves are used for flavoring salads, soups, meat and fish. The plant is highly aromatic and bears large, yellow flower heads. Sow seed directly in the garden in well-drained soil in a sunny location. Performs best in rows 9 inches apart. Thin plants to 9 inches apart when they are 2 inches tall.

The seeds can be harvested when the lower part of a seed cluster is ripe. Harvest leaves just as the flowers open. To preserve leaves, dry them slowly at 100 degrees Fahrenheit. For seeds, hang clusters in warm, dry place with tray beneath to catch seeds.

Dill

Annual herb. The compact habit and great dill flavor will be an interest to any cook. The finely cut foliage has many uses as seasoning either fresh or dried. The dwarf habit is adaptable to urban container gardens or suburban herb gardens.

Dill

Fennel

Perrenial herb. The bulb-like structure at the base of the stalk has a pleasant anise-like aroma and flavor. Serve either boiled or raw. Packet will plant approximately a 125 foot row. Sow directly in garden as soon as ground can be worked. Place one seed every 3 inches and cover with soil.

Thin plants to 9 inches apart when they are 2 inches tall. The stalks of fennel can be eaten like celery. Seeds and leaves may be harvested as a spice.

Lavender
(Lavendula Verea) 250MG
Perennial herb, except in very cold areas. Silvery plants with fragrant foliage and attractive lavender flowers are perfect in your perennial and herb gardens. Cut flowers when they have just opened and the scent is the strongest. Dry on screen in shade. Excellent in flower arrangements. Sow seed indoors near a sunny window 6 weeks before transplanting to the garden. Or, sow in garden in full sun when frost danger is over and ground is warm. Performs best in rows 2 feet apart.

Thin or transplant plants to 18 inches apart when they are 3 inches tall. Cut flowers when they have just opened and the scent is the strongest. Dry on screen in shade. Excellent in flower arrangements.
